Terms of use and copyright
These terms apply to everyone who opens dev. Academy. By creating an account or reading a book here, you agree to them. Last updated 3 October 2026.
1. Ownership and copyright
Every coursebook, teacher guide, lesson, quiz, assessment task, answer key, image, layout and code sample on dev. Academy (“the materials”), and the platform itself, are owned by dev. and its author, Eng. Mahmoud Yakoub.
The materials are protected by copyright from the moment they were created, under national copyright law and under international agreements including the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works. No registration or notice is needed for that protection to apply. The dev. name, the dev. logo and the “d.” mark identify the author’s work and may not be used without written permission.
Opening a book here does not transfer any ownership to you.
2. Your licence to read
When your account is approved and a book is assigned to you or to your class, you receive a licence that is:
- personal: for you only, on your own account;
- limited: for the books assigned to you, for the period set by the administrator;
- view-only: for reading on this platform, for teaching and learning;
- non-transferable and revocable: it cannot be passed to anyone else, and it can be ended at any time.
Teachers may display a book to their own approved class during lessons. Teacher guides and answer keys are for teachers only and must not be shown or given to students.
3. What is not allowed
Unless you have written permission from dev., you must not:
- download, copy, print, photograph, screenshot or record any page of the materials;
- share, publish, upload, sell, rent or distribute the materials, in whole or in part, in any form;
- translate, adapt or edit the materials, or create new works based on them;
- use the materials to train, fine-tune or test any artificial intelligence system;
- share your password or let another person use your account;
- pass a class link to anyone who is not a student of that class;
- remove, hide or alter a watermark or copyright notice;
- use scripts, extensions or other tools to collect pages, or try to bypass the protection of the platform.
4. Accounts and access
You must register with your real name. Teachers and independent students register with an email address they control and confirm it; students who join through a class link choose a username and password instead. If such a student forgets their login, the class teacher or the administrator approves the reset. Accounts are approved by the administrator. Classes created by teachers are also approved by the administrator before students can join them.
You are responsible for everything done with your account. An account can be signed in on one device at a time. The administrator may limit, pause or end access to any book, class or account at any time, with or without notice.
5. Content protection
To protect the author’s work, pages are delivered as images that carry a visible watermark with the email address of the reader and the date. Reading is paused when the reader window loses focus, and attempts to print, save or capture a page are blocked where the browser allows it and are recorded.
If a watermarked copy is found outside the platform, the account named in the watermark is treated as its source.
6. Your data
dev. Academy keeps only what it needs to run the service and protect the materials:
- your name, your email address or username, your school and your role;
- your password, stored only as a one-way hash that cannot be read back;
- the classes you belong to and the books assigned to you;
- the last page you read in each book;
- the questions you send to your teacher, the area of the page you marked, and the replies and files sent back;
- a log of which books you open, and of blocked attempts to print, save or capture a page.
One cookie keeps you signed in. There is no advertising and no tracking by other companies, and your data is not sold or shared. You can ask for your account and its data to be deleted at any time. Students under the age of digital consent in their country should register with the agreement of a parent, guardian or their school.
7. Third-party trademarks
The materials are written to support specific programmes, and the names and logos of those programmes are shown only to identify them.
International Baccalaureate, Baccalauréat International, Bachillerato Internacional, IB, the IB logo, Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Primary Years Programme (PYP) are trademarks owned by the International Baccalaureate Organization. These materials have been developed independently from, and are not endorsed by, the International Baccalaureate Organization.
VEX, VEX Robotics, VEX IQ and VEX V5 are trademarks or service marks of Innovation First, Inc. These materials are independent and are not sponsored or endorsed by Innovation First, Inc. or VEX Robotics.
All other names and logos belong to their respective owners.
8. Infringement
Breaking these terms ends your licence immediately. dev. may suspend or delete the account, inform the school concerned, and take any civil or criminal action available under the applicable copyright law, including claims for damages.
If you find these materials anywhere outside dev. Academy, please report it using the contact details below.
9. Disclaimer
The materials are provided for education. They are prepared with care, but they are provided “as is”, without any guarantee that they are free of errors or that the platform will always be available. To the extent the law allows, dev. is not liable for any loss arising from use of the platform or the materials.
10. Changes and governing law
These terms may be updated. The date at the top of this page shows the latest version, and continuing to use the platform means you accept it.
These terms are governed by the laws of the country in which the owner of dev. resides, and its courts have jurisdiction over any dispute, without limiting the protection the materials have in other countries.
11. Contact
For permission requests, licensing for a school, or to report a copy of these materials, contact the administrator of dev. Academy by replying to the email you received when your account was created, or through your teacher.
